Developing the Dunesforde brand

We are incredibly proud to have worked with Yorkshire-based businesses to develop the Dunesforde brand. The team at Elmwood in Leeds have been great partners, taking our story to create a logo and to design our labels. They helped us find local landscape artist, Lesley Birch, whose paintings beautifully capture the elements and feeling of a place.

The logo Elmwood designed for us has come directly from the land, just like our wine. Vineyards are not commonplace in the UK, particularly in North Yorkshire! When we planted Dunesforde, we were changing the landscape, putting our mark on the map. So Elmwood took a map of the area, centred on the vineyard, and used the shape of the vineyard to create our logo. The Dunesforde ‘shard’ is completely unique to us - it symbolises where our journey began and further reinforces how closely connected we are to the land. Our wines are unique due to where the grapes have been grown, in a climate and soil unlike any other. Reminiscent of the Devil’s Arrows, a Neolithic monument in nearby Boroughbridge, the shard also represents the landscape and the history of the local area.

With the brand concept in place, we turned our attention to the labels. Early on in the process we knew we wanted to work with a local artist to bring the Dunesforde landscape to life. There are so many connections between creating art and making wine, they both require incredible passion, vision and skill. Our wines are our interpretation of this unique landscape, just as Lesley Birch’s paintings on our labels are her interpretation. Lesley spent a few days painting and sketching among the vines to create the stunning Bacchus and Solaris acrylics and inks on paper.

Each of our bottles is a limited edition and just like a limited edition artwork, our wine bottles are signed and numbered. As you’re drinking your glass of Bacchus or Solaris, we hope you enjoy the work that went into creating the label.
