The vineyard in Summer

The vines continue to flourish and are now growing beyond the top wire of the trellis system. As a result, we have allowed native vegetation to grow in the area around the vines, which will compete for water and nutrients. We also decided to trim vines to just above the top wire to encourage the vines to store energy in their roots rather than use it for further growth.

Over the coming months we're going to weed around the vines to reduce competition over Autumn and Winter. We will also allow the grass to grow in the lanes between the vines, in order to help the tractor get in even when the ground is wet.
