First year pruning

Now the vines are beginning to come out of hibernation, we are setting about pruning. This is one of the most important jobs of all, as it dictates how the vines will grow over the coming year. This year, we are looking to encourage a strong straight trunk, so we will be cutting the vines back to two buds. This may seem brutal, but it will make the vine concentrate all the energy it stored last year into just these two buds, making them stronger.
