Planting day
After six months preparing the site and having taken delivery of the vines, we were really excited to see the vines being planted today. The specialist planting team, who were on their last stop in the UK before heading home to Germany, came in the afternoon.
They set up their GPS system to guide the tractor, ensuring the vines were planted at equal distances and the rows were straight. After six-months of preparations, the 6,000 vines were all planted in just three hours! The rows run North to South, with the four varieties we've planted, in roughly equal quantities, being: Bacchus, Solaris, Pinot Gris, and Pinot Noir Early.
The next job is to insert a rod next to each vine to encourage them to grow straight. Following this we add rabbit guards to protect the vines from unwanted attention.
