Peter Davenport

From a humble start selling washing machines on Doncaster high street, Peter Davenport has enjoyed a varied and colourful career that includes being a senior journalist on The Times covering major events around the world, meeting and interviewing high profile personalities. He travelled with Pope John Paul and took tea in an Irish castle with Fred Astaire among many other memorable encounters. He sailed on a Royal Navy aircraft carrier in the Indian Ocean, covered the army in Northern Ireland and flew with the RAF to the Falklands. Later, as founder of a number of public relations agencies, he advised sponsors of the Commonwealth Games and the first Round the World Yacht Race and the Boards of various businesses on corporate reputation and crisis communications.

Peter also managed his grandson’s rock band who were flown to Los Angeles to record and perform in Hollywood at just 14 years old and went on to play at the Tour de France when it came to Yorkshire and then in front of 20,000 strong crowds on a tour of major arenas around the UK and Ireland. He has also authored a number of non-fiction books.

David Roberts

Born in Lancaster, David gained a BEd degree from Durham Universtity prior to a career in education in North Yorkshire with 24 years as primary headteacher. He organises the annual programme of talks for the Friends of Roman Aldborough with speakers from all over the country. He leads tours of the site, works with local visiting schools and has taken part in a number of archaeological digs. In retirement he likes to travel in this country, France and Italy and in particular to visit his children and grandchildren in London and New York.

“As you walk through Aldborough you are well aware that something very special lies sleeping beneath your feet.” With the help of the mural, now installed in the Roman Tasting room, David will share some entertaining and intriguing local tales as he aims to bring Roman Aldborough to life.

Wreath Making Workshop

December 3rd, 10:30am

Would you like a bespoke Christmas wreath this year? This workshop will provide you with all of the materials and know-how to make that happen! You will be taught trade secrets by the experts at Rose and Spade florists, to add your own festive flair and imagination to your design. Taking away with you the skills to make christmas extra special year after year. You will enjoy tea or coffee on arrival, a short tutorial and all the materials required to make your own creation. This can then be followed by wine and food in Dunesforde’s Cellar Door Bar.
