In the vineyard this Spring

It's been a very busy start to Spring in the vineyard, getting everything ready for the start of the vines' growing season. Once we had removed all the rabbit guards, we were able to start pruning the vines. It was great to have so many people come help with the pruning, we love sharing what we're doing and helping others learn something new. The togetherness of working in the vineyard and sharing stories is one of the things we enjoy most about inviting people to Dunesforde.

With all the help we received with pruning the vines, what we expected to take almost two weeks, actually took only seven days. Thank you to everyone who came down and volunteered. If you are interested in volunteering at Dunesforde please contact our vineyard manager, James, at james@dunesforde.com.

Following pruning, we started to tie down the vines along the fruiting wire. This enables the shoots from the buds to grow vertically, helping us to organise the shoots to maximise the light that gets into the canopy. With the warm spell we had in April, the buds on the vines started to swell and some are beginning to burst...
